Attorney LaTonya Lipscomb Smith was born in South Boston, VA. Her early years were spent traveling the world with her family due to her father serving in the United States Marine Corps. They lived in places such as Havelock, NC, Yuma, AZ, and Okinawa, Japan. After her father’s honorable discharge from the US Marine Corp, the family settled in Durham, NC, where LaTonya graduated from Northern High School. Upon graduating with honors from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in Political Science, LaTonya began working with political campaigns and as a legal support staff for a prominent Workers’ Compensation firm. It was during this time, that her love of the law was reinforced and she enrolled in Florida A&M College of Law. After graduating law school, LaTonya returned to Durham where she spent time volunteering as a Guardian Ad Litem and working in the business office at North Carolina Central University. LaTonya relocated to Jacksonville, FL, with her husband and spent 6 months volunteering in the felony division of the 4th Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office. LaTonya opened Lipscomb Smith Law to provide the citizens of Jacksonville and Northeast Florida with quality and compassionate legal services. In her spare time LaTonya enjoys traveling, reading and volunteering with Empowerment Resources, Inc., which serves at-risk youth and families.
